NGO PRESENTATION
Handicap International is an independent and impartial international aid organisation working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, our action and testimony are focused on responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights.
Handicap International is a not-for-profit organisation with no religious or political affiliation. It operates as a federation made up of a network of associations that provide it with human and financial resources, manage its projects and implement its actions and social mission.
HI has been present in the Middle East since 1987 through its Development Department. HI started from early April 2012 a new project at the regional level aiming at the recognition and respect of the rights of PwD by the authorities and institutions, through the reinforcement of the Disabled People’s Organisations (DPO) and the disability movement at large. In Lebanon, in addition to the regional project, HI has been implementing a project aiming at improving the access to mental health rehabilitation services for the children with psychological distress living in the Palestinian camps. At last, in 2010, HI established the only humanitarian demining capacity in northern Lebanon (Batroun Region) Action Center (LMAC) in achieving its goal of making Lebanon mine impact free by 2020. Â
MISSION CONTEXT
Following the year long crisis in the Syrian Arab Republic, that has caused the displacement of civilians in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, Handicap International is implementing projects in Lebanon and Jordan, aiming at mitigating the impact of the crisis on the Syrian refugees and the host communities.
In Lebanon as well as in Jordan, Handicap International aims to improve the access to emergency rehabilitation care for the Syrian refugees at hospital and community level and to improve the coverage of the specific needs of the most vulnerable people affected by the crisis at the community level. In Lebanon, the targeted areas are the northern Bekaa Valley and Tripoli, whereas in Jordan, the targeted area is the northern region.
In Bekaa, Handicap International aims to improve the coverage of basics and specific needs of the most vulnerable people affected by the crisis at the community level, and by developing a tailored response to improve conditions of life during winter period.
In Tripoli, Handicap International aims to provide direct support to syrian injured refugies at hospital and community level. Besides, HI aims to improve the coverage of specific needs for vulnerable persons in the North.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Based in Amman, under the line management of Fleet Assistant / Driver, the Drivers are responsible to ensure a safe and secure transport of HI staff and goods with the respect of HI policy and Jordan traffic regulation at all hours.
Drivers are required to perform in accordance with the planning drawn up by the logistics department.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION
The driver will be in charge of:
1.Driving / transport of staff and guests
2.General
Drivers should show a responsible attitude in carrying out their position
Take care of vehicles and equipment
Arrive on time and according to the schedule provided
Do not use mobile during journey
Do not transport people outside the organization without authorization
Always keep the vehicle mobile charged and in good working condition and make sure you always have enough units in your mobile phone to contact your line manager
Remain discreet regarding the associations’ internal functioning and security guidelines
Inform supervisor at organization and the authorities immediately in case of accident or any incident concerning security
Ensure transport in accordance with traffic laws in force and the internal rules of Handicap International
Prepare departures:
All destinations must always be validated by your line manager, every new destination requested by passengers has to be validated by your line manager
Inspect and prepare the vehicle before departure so as to be on time
Before departure, you must always get the all HI documents and paper ready “HI card, license, etc…”
Ensure the good loading and unloading of the car and tight the goods in an appropriate way
Know the city plan, especially HI staff houses, INGOs offices, UN offices … and relevant partners’ offices
Make sign a Waiver of Liability form letter for none HI staff
Vehicle:
Report all data on the use of the vehicle in the logbook
Ensure that the tank is always at least half full
Stay near the vehicle while it is pending
Park the vehicle in the designated area (house or office), in the direction for easy departure (facing exit) every time
Leave the keys in the specified location after the service
Maintenance:
Responsible for good working condition of vehicle. Report all failures or malfunctions on the vehicle
Ensure cleanliness of the vehicle
Every morning, before leaving you must:
– Check the engine oil level and there is no trace of oil under the vehicle
– Check the water level of the cooling
– Â Check the level of locked brake and clutch
– Check installation of battery
– Check the cleanliness of the radiator grille
– Check the tire pressure (and appearance)
– Start the vehicle once the checks were made, leaving the engine running for 3 minutes and make sure the temperature normally rises
– Check lights
– Check the fuel level completed
– Verify the presence of shipboard equipment
Every evening, on returning to base, you must:
– Park the vehicle in the direction of departure
– Fill fuel, ensuring the cleanliness and quality of fuel
– Complete Service Manuals
– Report any potential problems in the logistics
– Wash the vehicle
– Take notice of the schedule the next day (time and place of departure)
Every week or before long trips, you must:
– Â Check the water level of the battery, the status of terminals
– Check installation of the radiator hoses and the state
– Perform purging the fuel settling tank if necessary
– Check the oil level power steering if necessary
– Check the air filter
– Check tire pressure
– Check operation of lighting and signaling
– Check the windshield washer fluid level
– Check the condition of the engine mounts and gearbox
– Check the fixing of suspensions and shock absorbers
– Check the fixing of exhaust pipe
– Check the condition of the chassis, body and tightening all the bolts
3.COORDINATION & REPORTING
Participate actively to meeting (weekly meeting with line manager …);
Provide any additional support upon request of Line Manager;
Note that this job description must remain flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager.
THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS
1. Professional competencies required
At least 1 year of experience working with an NGO or similar position in private sector
Driving license from at least 3 years
2. Skills
Good communication and common sense
Adaptation to specific working conditions and capacity to work in team
Honest and transparent
Knowledge of the North Jordan
Able to communicate in English
