ABOUT PREMIERE URGENCE INTERNATIONALE (PUI)
Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental international aid organization operating in more than 20 countries and relying on more than 30 years of experience in responding to the fundamental needs of crisis affected populations. Present in the Middle East since 1996, PUI conducts multi-sectoral humanitarian and resilience programming in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine and Yemen. PUI provides relief assistance (health and nutrition, water and sanitation, rehabilitation, food security and non-food item distribution, protection) and supports early recovery.
PUI’s actions are guided by principles of humanity, impartiality, independence, accountability, adaptability, transparency, cooperation and partnership, involvement, dialogue, initiative, and trust.
In Jordan, PUI has been responding since 2013 to the needs of most vulnerable populations affected by the Syria crisis in host communities.
OVERALL MISSION
General objective
Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer with the support of the Project Manager the Psychosocial Counselor will assist individuals, groups, and communities to recover from the effects of war trauma and displacement. She/he will contribute to improve the social and psychosocial well-being of children and their families, helping to rebuild their lives within their communities. She/he will assess needs of children, women, and men referred by the Programme team, define required support and appropriate activities, and advise if needed within the scope of PUI’s case management process. She/he will also organize the internal training of the programme staff and external training of key stakeholders in the community on psychological first aid and identification of needs for psychosocial support. She/he operates in line with PUI code of conduct, internal policies and specific guidelines.
Responsibilities and tasks
1. To provide psychosocial support, counseling, and organize support activities.
2. To strengthen referral pathways between actors in the community and linkage between PSS and MHPSS service providers.
3: To supervise the work of the Assistant and ensure her/his continuous training on PSS activities.
4. To provide internal on psychological first aid and ensure community sensitization on psychosocial distress identification in the community.
5. To report accurately to the Project Officer on Psychosocial Support activities, participate in the Monitoring of the project, and produce relevant information about the project activities and achievements.
Objective 1: To provide psychosocial support, counseling, and organize support activities.**
Under the supervision of the Project Officer, she/he will assess the needs of persons and families referred by the Social workers in order to confirm the need for psychosocial support.
/he will define appropriate activities according to the needs identified (individual counseling, the number of sessions, and the type of activity planned) and will follow up those persons.
/he will organize individual sessions, including music, theater, sport, visual art and indoor/outdoor activities as appropriate.

Under the supervision of the Project Officer, she/he will represent PUI during external bilateral and multilateral meetings and coordinate regularly with mental health and psychosocial support actors, stakeholders, and Partners.
/he will strengthen field coordination and referral pathways between mental health and psychosocial support actors in the community by sharing accurate information on the services provided.
/he will make sure to provide minutes to the Project Officer of all the meetings attended and raise any issue that is of PUI interest.

Objective 3: To ensure activities are up to standard and results are in line with project objectives and outcomes
S/he will ensure disaggregated and cumulative tracking of beneficiaries and documentation of all activities and outcomes.
S/he will maintain program files and documentation as per program management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality and security of PSS beneficiary data.
• S/he will ensure programming is on track to meet objectives; reporting regularly on important issues that are cross-cutting
Objective 4: To provide internal trainings on psychological first aid and ensure community sensitization on psychosocial distress identification in the community.
Under the supervision of the Project Officer, she/he will build the capacity of the Programme Staff by providing relevant training sessions on psychological first aid and psychosocial support needs identification.
Under the supervision of the Project Officer and in taking into consideration guidelines and tools developed in coordination with other mental health actors, she/he will participate in the creation and update of supportive materials to ensure the high quality of community messages delivered on services available.
Objective 5: To report accurately to the Project Officer on Psychosocial Support activities, participate in the Monitoring of the project, and produce relevant information about the project activities and achievements.**
/he will write monthly reports on all the activities implemented as requested by the Project Officer according to the project and management indicators.
/he will regularly provide reports to the Project Officer on staff capacity building regarding psychosocial aspects.
/he will assist the Project Officer in providing sufficient and detailed information for program reporting to donors and PUI Senior Management Team.
Based on the on-going monitoring of the activities, she/he will ensure lessons learnt and success stories from the project are documented and reported to her/his manager.
/he will regularly provide reports to the Project Officer on staff capacity building regarding psychosocial aspects.

She/He will ensure that each of her/his sessions is documented in order to comply with donor audit requirements

PROFILE
Required Background, knowledge & Skills:
Master’s degree or equivalent in psychology
At least 2 years’ experience as clinical psychologist. An experience in similar role in humanitarian assistance/with other Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) is an asset.
Mandatory Experience in psychological first aid and in providing trainings, organizing group counseling
Fluent in English and Arabic, oral and written.
Excellent command of Microsoft Office

To be receptive, sensitive and an excellent listener
Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate an idea clearly and concisely in public, with good understanding of at stakes.

Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situation.
